Welcome back fellow lovers of travel.
Today I take you through some adrenaline rush experiences I had in the UAE which is short for the United Arab Emirates, but you already knew that right? Ha!
The UAE is is a federation of seven emirates, the most popular being Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Now at #travellikenaks we love us some Dubai because of the shopping but this blog is not about that.
I am not an adrenaline junky by any measure but once in a while I get out of my comfort zone and do something different. If you are a serious adrenaline junky this might just be a joke but it’s certainly not for the faint hearted.
Are you ready for take off? Breath in…and out…Just kidding it’s not that serious. Relax.
1. Riding sand dunes in a 4×4
Now when I booked a desert safari experience, I have to admit, I didn’t see this coming.
The desert safari is a whole experience on its own but the best part of the experience is riding the sand dunes. The rise also happens just before sunset so it makes for some really beautiful views. (Bonus!!).
The driver rides through the desert at a moderate to high speed or at least that’s what it felt like. Now we all know the desert is not just a flat surface right? And you’ve got what I call mini desert mountains (excuse my kindergarten english) and the driver has to drive on the side of these mountains so most of the time the car is tilted sideways with a slight risk of falling over. That’s where the slight fear comes in. We were saying from left right and I was holding onto the seat in from me. Every time we did a quick turn the guys would scream “woohoo”.
I have to confess, I was more excited once the drive was done but I was glad I did it nonetheless. The views of just desert and sunset made for any fear I had during the drive. I decided to take pictures of myself while hubby went sand boarding ( it was enough adrenaline for one day).
2. Fastest roller coaster in the world
Is you feel the need for speed then you can visit Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. It’s actually in Yas Island which about 30 minutes drive from Abu Dhabi. Her name is Formula Rossa and she’s the world’s fastest coaster (or is it a he? Rossa sounds like a girls name).
I waited in line anticipating what was about to come. While waiting I saw the coaster take off and return in just over a minute. Some would come out with tears in their eyes and others with smiles in their faces so I had mixed feelings about what was about to happen.
My time finally came to experience Rossa. As I sat in the seat I wondered why I even considered doing this? Once we were all strapped in, Rossa took off at a speed of 240lm/h and the speed literally pulled my head back and messed up my hair in the process. The minute and a half felt longer but it was fast, fast and exciting.
Before I knew it the ride was done and I was ready to do it again.
3. Yas Waterworld Liwa Loop
Just next door Ferrari World is Yas Waterworld. You can visit both in one day but I chose to savour each moment and do it over two days.
Among the many water slides and rides is the liwa loop. I think the scariest thing about the loop is the idea of being closed off in a pipe-like thingamajiggy (hahaha, private school english this…). Let’s just call it a pipe ok.. oh and the other thing is the free falling. There’s someone about feee falling that makes me nervous.
Now this one was very exciting for me because I love being in the water but I didn’t think through other things like how do you get into the “pipe”? I’m crazy I know but these things matter.
You stand above the “pipe” with your hands tightly on your side. The bottom opens up and you get “sucked in”. You move very fast through the pipe and land in the water. The water is not deep at all for all those of you thinking “but I can’t swim”.
It was so much fun. I wanted to do it over and over again but there were many other things to enjoy at Yas Waterworld.
Creating beautiful memories is also sometimes about getting out of your comfort zone. Unless you have medical reasons, you should definitely try releasing those happy endorphins.
Till next time…
